چکیده

We study the randomness necessary for the simulation of a random process with given distributions, in terms of the finite-precision resolvability of the process. Finite-precision resolvability is defined as the minimal random-bit rate required by the simulator as a function of the accuracy with which the distributions are replicated. The accuracy is quantified by means of various measures: variational distance, divergence, Ornstein, Prohorov and related measures of distance between the distributions of random processes. In the case of Ornstein, Prohorov and other distances of the Kantorovich-Vasershtein type, we show that the finite-precision resolvability is equal to the rate-distortion function with a fidelity criterion derived from the accuracy measure. This connection leads to new results on nonstationary rate-distortion theory. In the case of variational distance, the resolvability of stationary ergodic processes is shown to equal entropy rate regardless of the allowed accuracy. In the case of normalized divergence, explicit expressions for finiteprecision resolvability are obtained in many cases of interest; and connections with data compression with minimum probability of block error are shown.

Numerical solution and simulation of random differential equations with Wiener and compound Poisson Processes

Ordinary differential equations(ODEs) with stochastic processes in their vector field, have lots of applications in science and engineering. The main purpose of this article is to investigate the numerical methods for ODEs with Wiener and Compound Poisson processes in more than one dimension. Ordinary differential equations with Ito diffusion which is a solution of an Ito stochastic differentia...

Theoretical Analysis of the Rate-distortion Performance of a Light Field Streaming System

Large image-based rendering data sets such as light fields require efficient compression and random access to individual images for applications such as interactive streaming to a remote user. In our earlier work, we propose a theoretical framework to analyze the trade-off between compression efficiency and random access. In this current paper, we extend the theoretical framework by calculating...

Investigating the Effect of Joint Geometry of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Process on the Residual Stress and Distortion using the Finite Element Method

Although a few models have been proposed for 3D simulation of different welding processes, 2D models are still more effective in design goals, thus more popular due to the short-time analysis. In this research, replacing "time" by the "third dimension of place", the gas tungsten arc welding process was simulated by the finite element method in two dimensions and in a short time with acceptable ...

A Novel 36-pulse rectifier with low kVA rate to reduce harmonic input current distortion

The increase in the number of pulses in multipulse rectifiers leads to a reduction in harmonic current distortion. But this increase in the number of pulses leads to an increase in kVA, cost, and complexity of the multi-pulse rectifiers. As a result, in industrial applications, 12-pulse rectifiers are mainly used due to their lightweight, simple transformers, and low kVA rate, and low cost. The...

Scalar Quantization for Audio Data Coding

— This paper is concerned with scalar quantization of transform coefficients in an audio codec. The generalized Gaussian distribution (GGD) is used as an approximation of one-dimensional probability density function for transform coefficients obtained by modulated lapped transform (MLT) or modified cosine transform (MDCT) filterbank. The rationale of the model is provided in comparison with the...
